- SimCity was a complete disaster at launch because of its online only requirement. A cloud-based game would be like, 10x worse. Heck, Square Enix made a Kingdom Hearts cloud-based game on the Switch. It's a disaster.

And that's the reason why EA/Maxis wouldn't make the same stupid mistake twice. They know that a subscription would kill the entire Sims franchise, and they're not going to risk losing all their loyal customers and trillions of dollars on implementing a pointless subscription-based game. - Horrorgirl63 years agoSeasoned VeteranI think people are jumping conclusions here.At the summit they said multiplayer would be optional? Implying there is a single player mode. They said the game cross platform not cloud base gaming.
- SheriSim3 years agoSeasoned HotshotI was just listening to a YouTuber talking about how she thinks the sims 5 is going to be cross platform, a cloud game and most likely will be a subscription service. I sure hope not. I don’t mind buying Deluxe content,……. But I don’t like the idea of not actually owning the game. I sure hope they don’t go that way. I stopped playing sims FreePlay and bought the sims 4 because I wanted a game I could own and control. They had made it where you had to spend money to stop aging, or go through some big hassle to stop it. If this happens, I may decide not to get it. That is too bad too because I was so looking forward to the sims 5 coming out in a few years.
So what do you all think the sims 5 is going to be? And do you like the idea? - https://c.tenor.com/-xg_ThcdfJQAAAAM/noo-god-no.gif
Sorry, but I don't want to go to the clown (cloud) district today.
I also noticed the God Hermes is trolling us today due to the weird jester activity that has been going on lately... - Anonymous3 years ago

Yes, I think that is the YouTube video I posted in this thread. Unless it was a different Youtuber. - Anonymous3 years ago

Subscription is also a way to reward the players who support the game month after month with bonus content.
A subscription is complicated. I don't want an add-on subscription on top of paying for base game and packs.
In theory, the Sims 5 (Rene) could split into free and premium like a lot of games (e.g. Runescape, Roblox).
Free players only get the base game. Premium players subscribe and get all DLC packs and features. I know this would be very unpopular but there's precedent.
The one pro I can think of is that all DLC EPs and features can be playtested together for superior integration and compatibility since all "premium" players would have access to all the premium content. Would help with bugs. Pack combinations don't seem to be tested right now in the Sims 4. - ChadSims23 years agoSeasoned NoviceA subscription service is one way to completely end the Sims at that point I'm out no way am I paying monthly.

Internet-only like The Sims FreePlay and The Sims Mobile. Project Rene is also a mobile game.
Cloud-based like SimCity (2013). It's probably a requirement for multiplayer mode but it could also simplify the life of console/mobile players, it removes all the download time and the huge data storage. TS4 game with all the packs use 60 GB.
Subscription like online games but it's usually optional.
For example SWTOR, the EP are free for the members and are paid content for the non-members.
Cons : Maintenance, server updates and server issues including ISP issues mean you can't play to the game during several hours.
From interviews, it seems like even Lyndsay Pearson isn't exactly sure what the game will turn out to be along those three capabilities: internet-only, cloud-based, and subscription - Simburian3 years agoNew TravelerAnybody using Origin and getting through to the Gallery should notice that the server they are using has only a few thousand using it when they do. I used to find about 75 thousand plus on there a few months ago and now I find only about 7 thousand there each time.
EA/Maxis is already getting ready for Sims 5 and probably experimenting, putting many more local servers to use for it when it comes out.
I was commenting on a Cloud version several years ago here. Nobody seemed to find it viable. I did.
