I played Sim City and Sim City 2000 as a kid in the late 90s. Then tried out The Sims at a friend's house but I thought it was kinda stupid, lol. Only in late 2010 did I find out about Sims 3 through a Let's Play and fell in love with it. I first borrowed the base game from a friend and played the heck out of it before I eventually bought it and all EPs for myself.

Started with SIMCITY original. We've owned almost every SIM and SIMS title and DLC including participating in a very expensive family four pack for The SIMS ONLINE.
Been a long and fun road...mostly. Still waiting for IT to happen. :)

SIMCITY Original, STREETS of SIMCITY, SIMCOPTER, SIMTown, SC2000, SC3000, SC4, SC2013, SC Societies, SIMS1-4, SIMS ONLINE.
From the start. And when SC2000 happened we were teased with the idea that THE SIMS would and could be a PART OF SIMCITY.
Over the year there was no will to do much of anything to make this happen, opting for degraded 2.5D engines.
How they developed The SIMS really was exciting and opened up so many ways they could be super important in building amazing SIMCITIES and have grand adventures w a new STREETS of SIMCITY ( NOT any of the U-Drive it...stuff. That was a big step backwards).
Anyway the grand vision to unite ALL the SIMTITLES still has not happened.
Every time I play THE SIMS now I always hit that wall where I can't become Mayor and World Build in SIMCITY fashion. The Cities/neighborhoods are not alive or connected in any meaningful way and even if you do change their environments ( all green ) it has no impact on SIM moving in/out or the economy.
Since SIMS 2-3 another big step backwards has happened. There is little autonomy like there used to be. Criminals would commit crimes and Detectives would catch them. Riots would break out at City Hall for demands, etc. etc.
Before I expire I would love to see the grand vison happen and SIMCITY, STREETS, COPTER etc. return as the KING. I'm sad others have now been allowed to take those crowns with no pushback.
WILL WRIGHT HAD IT ALL and set up MAXIS for ULTIMATE success and it was thrown away.
My two cents anyway.
Cheers and best.

- I couldn't recall the year but I know it had to be before 1998 that I played Sim city. At least a few years before. Then the first sims game was a big huge deal and everyone was playing it (not just girls/women as some say, at least not among people I knew). I found it as addicting as everyone else.
Life got more complex by the time Sims2 rolled out even though I really was excited about it, I never plumbed its depths then, and even less with Sims3 so never knew how great it or Sims2 were til recently. "mightysprite;c-18110725" wrote:
I didn't play it very much, but I did play this on a Commodore 64 as a kid.

After that I didn't play any other Sim games until 2020.
The Commodore 64 ! Now that brings back memories. What a great system for its time.- Started with the original Sim City.
