Is "the purge" what I'm experiencing? All my FB neighbours just vanished after a recent update. Do you have any more details?

The most obscure task I've had is sliding down the fireman's pole, and that needed the hammock on the tropical island.
I had to do a web search to work out how to finish that one!

I assume you're level 55 as that is as far as it goes
Now to answer your questions
The purge was FBs doing, Firemonkeys can not control it and can not do anything about it
It is possible that it was a bug but it can also be a purge of inactive neighbours
Bugs with FB occurs regularly as FB is not primarily made for game connection, so it isn't their primary focus to maintain or fix
Quick trouble shoot if your boat is empty:
Log out of FB from the game
Delete the FB app from your device
Log in to FB from the game, using a browser rather than the app
If this is successful, you can reinstall the FB app
That should bring back active neighbours
If they are inactive, you can ask them to log in to the game and they will return to your boat (I do this with hubs as he don't play that often)
There are one more things that can be done if this did not work before contacting FB and support
But since you will be using GP, you might not even want to do this
Regarding weird tasks
You do not need a tropical island to use a fire pole
As soon as you've done the Multi story renovation quest you can buy fire poles in the store, in the stairs section
Any of those will do for the quest - no need to find a neighbour with the tropical island, just find a neighbour with a fire pole
As soon as something can be done in YOUR town, it can become a task for your neighbourhood (social task)
Even if you haven't done it in your town, you have the ability (even if you lack the cash) and it can show up in social tasks
You unlocked the ability to build pools, and buy pool toys - so you get a task to joy ride at your neighbour even if you have not yet build a pool
You build the Snow park, your sim have to surf the snow at your neighbours snowpark and so on
As you're top level and have done all main quests (your sims are dying so you've done Life, Legacy and Dreams) I think this reply is more for the benefit of others who might have some questions, so if you're rolling your eyes at me and the obvious answers regarding the tasks, think of newer players that might read this 😉
