The biggest advantage is in marketplace events where you get bonus based on how much your workplace is upgraded. So more you upgrade, the more bonus and therefore easier to get marketplace event prize.
Also remember it's more difficult in the beginning because every station is least upgraded. If you upgrade more you'll see that you can decrease activity time and increase coins and xp earned.
I feel movie studio and police station is somewhat doable. But I totally hate hospital! It's very time consuming! I mean 12 hours for a shift?! And it takes 30mins to about more than and hour for 1 activity. I wish it was changed.
