What is the point of the grocery store?

What is the point of the grocery store?  Also, what do I do when I purchase seeds?  Does the XP automatically go into my total after the time goes by?  I did not notice anything when I purchased a few seeds other than losing the money.  PLZ help me understand this.

    The grocery store saves you simoleons whenever you plant or bake things for example beans are $115 if you press on the garden patch , but if you buy them from the store they are $105
