Revenue Split

Hi,

The Revenue split is often mentioned in the discussions but everybody tends to forget about the rest of the world.

  • Roblox Marketplace : 30%
  • Steam Workshop : 25%
  • Minecraft Marketplace : 35%
  • Unreal Editor for Fortnite : 40%

So TS4 Marketplace with 30% is not surprising, EA follow the rule.

The 70/30 split (where the platform keeps 70% and the creator gets 30%) is actually quite common in the world of "User-Generated Content" (UGC) within games, though it is the exact opposite of the standard 30/70 split seen in app stores like Apple or Google.

In 2013, TS3 Store had $25 million of annual revenue.

If the Marketplace reaches this level, it would mean $7.5 million for the Makers.

Imagine if there are 100 Makers, it could be $75 000 for each as additional revenue to Patreon donations ("over 45% of American households had an annual income that was less than 75,000 U.S. dollars").

In term of content, it could be $3 of a $10 Maker pack sold to 25 000 players or 5 Maker packs sold to 5 000 players annually.

Note : lilsimsie's annual revenue is estimated at $150 000 with YouTube.

  • Well you can follow your favourite CC creators on Patreon, etc, and make sure they get nearly 100% of the money, better going into their pockets than that of the multi-billion dollor corporation that doesn't care about the players.  You should do that for all games that have as extensive and thriving CC/modding community as TS4 does, best to help the actual creatives than those exploiting their work.

I believe the new marketplace would pay patreons more in the long run- 30 percent of each purchase of each pack of items and no bulk downloading everything at once.

I mean not really, most people do not pay patron for early acess.Only a fraction do,and here they actually get money  based on revenue.

  • Just because other people are also doing unfair things doesn't give you an excuse to do it yourself. We should look at bad business practices and find the ways we can rise above and not how low we can go without being "worse" than them. 7 Million for makers could easily be 10 million if this was fair to them. Although I am against the marketplace all together and won't be purchasing anything from it.
