Should this really be considered custom content ?

A lot of people are debating about free cc or monetization. What the creators are doing is making content to Ea for purchase. That's the same thing they did with Creator kits. The only difference is that creators can decide how many items or how much each set will cost now. Also that were using a virtual currency instead of cash.

So should this really be consider custom content? If they are using official tools and working with Ea to make this ?

  • I count it as CC. It's just CC made with Maxis tools and hosted on the Marketplace. But it's not made by Maxis, and it's not treated with the same level of "prestige" (for a lack of a better word) as packs, or how kits used to be treated. It can also disappear if the creator leaves the platform, so it's tied more to the creator than it is to the game and Maxis.

If it was a couple of things (like the creator kits), then I'd be less sure. But with everything in mind, it feels exactly like CC, just on an official platform.

No, they are using offical tools. Each creator approve by the marketplace get a marketplace kit.

  • They are not using official tools, and EA is only checking stuff that it works and localizing the text into all the languages.

I am not sure why they call them stencils, but all CC creators use game assets as templates for size, positioning,  and for game functions. EA also uses them when creating stuff.

That would be great if the filter works. As it is now the filters are ignored and I am shown everything no matter what.

According,  to the q and a on discord. They will be filter for the gallery .So you wont see market place content.

  • In my eyes I think it will always be CC. I can't even consider buying existing Creator Kits, which I also consider CC (let alone this Maker content), I just find they lack the cohesion of non-official content too annoying.

I mean even if if was a literal ex-Maxis creator, if it at all feels like if doesn't fit with official content swatch wise, the compression issues with the other creator kits, etc. I just will see CC. But if they do something sneaky like official content just re-swatched and/or patterned, I'll be not happy, that should be free!

I don't know if I am just extra picky, or sensitive, or just the kneejerk feeling when you accuse things for being "AI" generated even when it might not be. When Sims content starts to look too uncanny valley (IMO)—I am just turned off.

  • I am also wondering if this is cc. More importantly will the gallery flag items from the marketplace as cc.

One could argue this is maxis outsourcing content creation to freelancers. This content has to be created with stencils. As far as I can tell these stencils are some kind of template creators have to use. So they can't just create anything. That's a limit real cc never had.
