    Try going to build/purchase item mode, it sort of freezes the sims and lets you design/alter your home. Then zoom in where the carpet is and hold your finger, it should then select the carpet and allow you to move it. It is harder to do when you are outside the build mode.

    Going into build/buy mode and then clicking on the carpet seemed to work. Thank you!
