Do traits change when you move in a sim?

Today I was at the party of a friend who married one of my sims. I was at first curious because the brother of the sim who married and moved into the house of today's party went to talk to his sister, and had to introduce himself. She was dressed exactly as she was when she left and named the same with the addition of her new family name. I clicked my sim's contacts screen and she now shows up twice, once just as she was when she left home and once as he met her at the party and (although the icons are small and I would like confirmation) it seems that her traits had changed.

My question is, did those change when you got her? Were you allowed to change them or did the system do it?
- Yes, they changed! I think it was the next day, I was a bit gutted tbh, as she had great traits...! I had to choose the next trait, and then realised they weren't the ones she came with...!
