Game takes forever to load and freezes constantly without always crashing

The problem started on July 4th. My game and OS (ipad) are up to date. Wifi is perfect. I’ve tried force closing the app, restarting my device, closing background apps: none of the usual tricks seem to work.

Also, my device heats a lot more than usual since updating the game. On the few occasions I managed to play, my ipad got so hot so fast that it begged me to take it on a trip to the fridge. The game is a nightmare. 

Other people on Reddit experience the same issue. We have sent DMs to SimGuruPedro who has not read them.

    My gameplay environment
    iOS / iPad (6th gen) / iPhone (SE 3rd gen) / wifi

    I usually play on my iPad, but since the latest update, it lags and often freezes when starting the app. (Both occur only when starting the app. Restart the app and if it works, I can play the game as usual )
    And the app crashes (not freezes, but shuts down) when I try to view a particular friend’s home. It crashes as well when I try to attend her party. These didn’t occur before the update.

    I thought it was because of my old iPad, so I downloaded the app to my iPhone. Then I had no problems with my iPhone. No lags, no freezes, I can see friend’s home and attend her party.

    What does this mean? Has the latest update bloated the app and made it require more powerful devices? Sure my iPad is old…but it seems many of her friends also can’t view her home or attend her party.

    However, in the last two days my game has improved somewhat. It is a little laggy (when starting the app), but it rarely freezes anymore. I still have the problem of not being able to access certain friend’s house, though
  • The loading screen issue is new but freezing was an issue I've had for years, At that time @/SimGuruAlana was TSM community manager and she said that because it is device related (my device was not powerful) it is not a problem...

    My sister plays on a very old Android phone and has not experienced these issues. I’m wondering if it has to do with the ipad OS.

  • Gameplay environment: iOS 14.7.1 / wifi

    I experienced the same problem for the first couple days of the current STS. Had to restart my device several times to get it working but it would freeze again the next time I ran the app. Since the update, the app drains my device's battery and resources more than usual. I played the last festival season on the same OS so it can't be due to my device or OS. At least 5 people experiencing the problem on Reddit are on Apple devices.

    SimGuru Pedro hasn't responded to my DM on Twitter. Will try DM-ing other SimGurus.
