Generation/Retirement/Heirloom Family Questions...

Ok, so to make a long story short...I want to remake my entire family, but don't want to loose stuff, anyway I'm about ready to retire the dad, then mom, then each child...I want the heirlooms...my question is, if I retire everyone together, will I have all 4 slots still open to start new family? Also can my new Sims have the same names? Will it affect the family tree or portrait? Anything else I should know about this idea?

@OkL80Bug I can answer some of this for you. There are issues with people not getting heirlooms when you retire a sim. I don't know if you will be effected. It's a new game bug with the new heirloom system (see the bug section of this forum).  If your going to retire a sim, wait until the sticker contest is over or you will miss out on any izzy gems your entitled to if you retire the sim early.

Every time you retire a sim , a sim slot will open so if you retire  four sims, all four slots should open.

I usually retire one sim per week so I have no idea what will happen if you retire all 4 at once. It's possible it could mess up the retirement chests since they added the new way of obtaining heirlooms. I also don't know if you start a whole new family how that will work on your family tree but someone else may be able to answer you

My best guess / suggestion since I don't know for sure:

    • I agree with @Fuzzernutter wait until after you receive the fashion gems from the sticker contest on Monday.
    • As you retire each sim, create your new replacement so that your house is never totally empty.
    • I have named 2 sims the same name by accident so II know you can reuse the same names.
    • I would guess that the new sims just get added to your current generation in the same family tree.
    • The family portrait will always show the current unretired sims living in your house.
    • The only downside of recreating new sims is there is a cost, but I don't remember how much it is.
