Tips: Throwing the best parties

As a newbie, I've discovered a few things that really help me when throwing parties. Heavy-hitter Sims probably already know this stuff, but since I'm still learning, I thought I'd share what I've learned and also ask for tips (and corrections) from the wiser players!

PARTY PREP:
I was appalled the first time I threw a party, because I wasn't expecting to have to rearrange my furniture and decorations on the fly in order to accommodate party items. And I had to do it fast, because guests were already showing up. Embarrassing! And worse, the party decorations completely clashed with my design motifs.

Solution: First, I compared the available party items for each party theme (which we can view well ahead of time in the build menu) and chose the one that's most complimentary to my house. I eliminated the concert theme right away, because all that equipment is an eyesore in my art-deco-inspired home. I eliminated the birthday party theme because I don't like the color choices of the balloons and presents. I chose the studio theme because the available items best matched my home design and available space.

Next, I considered each studio party item and spent time planning where each item would go. The mural and photo wall hangings are exceptionally large, so it's important to clear a full wall for each. That's very difficult to do if it's not taken care of in advance.

Once I planned placement, I rearranged furniture to make room for the party items BEFORE I hit "Host party." Then after I started the party, I could quickly place the party items and welcome guests with no stress.

CAREER/HOBBY ACTIVITY INCENTIVES:
When I search for a party to go to, I keep my eye open for events that offer the best activity incentives for the greatest amount of my Sims (denoted by the blue or orange briefcase and puzzle piece beneath "Ideal Attendees" in each party description). That way, when each of my Sims attend, she has opportunity to earn lots of career/hobby points. If a party offers no incentives for my Sims, I skip it and find one that does.

I reasoned, if I search for parties this way, other players probably do, too. When I throw a party, I want to offer the best activity incentives I can for my guests. Question is, how do I do that?

Solution: I'm still figuring this out, but I learned career/hobby incentives are made available to guests by placing as many career/hobby items I can manage to fit in my home (tastefully). One item = blue briefcase or puzzle piece and the lowest points for interaction. Two or more items for each career/hobby = orange icons and higher points for interaction. The more career/hobby items you offer, the more icons appear in your party description, the more guest can earn while attending your party, and the more guests you attract!

Unfortunately, all this may only help so much because of the party guest limit. But better parties = better points and faster leveling for everyone. That's something to celebrate! 🎉🥂
