Too many relationships? sims info panel crashes

I still have two active sims from the first generation that are over three years old. They have had 150+ children and have started relationship stories with all of them, plus a couple dozen relationships outside the family, total around 175 contacts. The rest of the household consists of their adult children plus a few adult grandchildren.

For some time I have been having a problem. When I try to open the main couple's Sims Info Panel, the game crashes after about 30 seconds (seems to be because of it trying to load all those sims into the icons). So I cannot access their stickers, traits, stories, and relationships/contacts.

Previously the second/third generation SIms I could get their info panel open OK. But more recently I am having problems with them too.

These sims can open the main info panel, but cannot open the relationships/contacts tab (crashes after about 30 seconds of trying, seems to be becase they have 150+ siblings/niblings).

I have been having this problem for quite some time but since I still had two of the player sims that were ok I just dealt with it. Since they can't either now, it's more of a problem though. 

So... does anyone else out there have a similar number of relationships? Is your game working or do you have a problem too? 

I have an older phone, Galaxy S5. Do people with newer phones have this experience, or do newer phones handle this many relationships ok?

Does anyone know a suggestion to fix this other than trying to retire the sims? (I do not intend to ever retire my first sims, 🙂 I am very attached to them. I'll keep working around the glitch and just deal with not being able to use that part of the game if there is no way around it).
