True, while choosing not to micro manage the fictional political elements or economy?
A style can have any element you imagine or any imaginable logic once you understand it.
Try different reasoning until it makes sense.
Possibly try imagining a cause and effect logic and build from there?

And being massively multiplayer there are any numbers of strategies that may effect gameplay for you.
Not all in a positive way. So imagine your play environment minimizing obstacles in the future.

when playing as CIC, i like to rule with an iron first. I crack down on any dissent and boot anyone who challenges my leadership.

I often notice commandeers rely on a political argument to keep members in line.
The tactical objectives are ordered and depending on how members respond is their standing in the alliance.
Actually on those cases the tactical objectives are secondary to how well the commander rallys supporters to them.

Commanders with economic sense I've noticed them not micromanageing the military at all.
Idk, business or economic studies in school maybe? Or maybe a strong political sense of objective giving them resource strategies?
It might well be one of the three that gets people interested in the first place. An idea from another game perhaps, or a movie?

Thinking in the terms of cause and effect seems to help.
What you think causes an event to be necessary and its desired outcome is naturally opposed or can be.
