Payment forced to be in US$ within Eurozone

In the past there has been discussion of this but it has never been resolved.

It seems that in Austria, part of the Eurozone, they can't pay in Euros. I seem to remember that this applied in a number of other EU countries too.

Is anyone here in Austria? Here's a challenge: Try to purchase TA funds - you don't need to actually purchase them! and report back if you can buy them in Euros. Also, try to by a EA game in Origin. Is the price displayed in Euros or US$?

Are there any other Eurozone areas where this is a problem?
  • Hello Commander,

thank you for your feedback, I forwarded this issue to EAs team taking care of the store
  • We have already requested that € should be the default for all countries in the Euro zone. We are waiting now for completing the changes by EAs web team.
  • I'm in Mexico, but I use an American credit card and I wanted to purchase TA funds with that card but in Mexican pesos since the TA funds in here Mexico are a bit cheaper. I was buying what was supposed to be 289 MXN pesos of TA funds. But when I got to the final step to charge the card it was showing up as 289 US dollars, which in reality 289 pesos = 13 USD.

I tried several things to fix this. I tried to change my proxy etc. But it kept showing up as only USD. But then I got another card with only a $20USD credit left thinking that if it charged me 289 dollars it would decline. I finished the transaction and it went through. It only charged me the CORRECT amount of 289 Mexican Pesos which then were converted to 13 USD (my card doesn't charge currency exchange fees).

So basically it will charge you what ever you were quoted in the first place and just ignore the final amount that says US. If you were going to buy in Euros it will nonetheless charge you in euros in the end.
  • I could have been expensive if you'd used a card with more than the $20 credit. Thank you for relaying this information.
  • In Mexico, the price appears in US$ but is actually charged in the local currency. It may be the same for Estonia.
  • Check to see if the store you're accessing is the US store or the EU one. This is done by logging into origin.com and checking your location setting. When I checked it required me to update my location so it is worth trying.
  • The price looks about right - $40.99 for the 50 000 TA's
However it should be in Euros!
