gamerdruid, I feel for you dude (or dudette)
as you appear to be the only one "moderating". While there may be some mild annoyances, I.E. paying customers looking to get their fix, it really is the job of EA staff to keep us informed. And while the young man up there did ask for moderator input and you have answered this is a business operating on a business model of supply and demand = moeny for EA and a buzz for the customers. When you talk about how it might be unfair that unsubscribed/payless players are being reimbursed in the same manner as paying players...when they're not playing so I don't care what they get - I do care for a little token of appreciation for having to suffer through the indignation of following posts and threads seeking a glimmer of hope instead of playing through my addition. Actually, tell a lie, I'm busing playing on https://cncapp05.alliances.commandandconquer.com quite happily but I would like to get to my other worlds.I wasn't suggesting those that don't pay (or haven't used funds during this series of issues shoudln't get any compensation, just that it should be different and less than those that paid for 7 or 30 days of increased capacities etc
But, Kiekeboehoehoe has a valid point - regardless of the model the technical staff use, typically this scenario would have ben well tested long in advance with contingencies. It isn't enough to switch 50 worlds and then go home for the weekend because it's a job for you and not a pleasure. If my MD called me on Sunday and he said the new Exchange server was down do you think I would ignore his "posts" and simply wait until Monday?
C'mon guy time is oney and for every hour these worlds are down there is a financial penalty - I gaurantee then that hits the $1Mil mark something will hit the fan.
They didn't just go home after 50 worlds - around 250 worlds were moved before the issue really became noticeable. I'm not technical enough to know how or if you can simulate reliably this type of move. They needed to sleep on Friday but have been back at work today.
Again, I don't know the team responsible for the planning or testing of the move but my guess it would be at least partly a team at the data centre. Yes, once this is all over I'm sure some hard questions will be asked of everyone and answers demanded that may cost people roles (sideways moves) or even their jobs.
