Game servers down (maybe EA)

World 42 general question: Since yesterday mid day in South Africa I have not been able to login as I get a "server down" message. However, I can log in via mobile app but my desktop chrome browser has an issue.
Is this a real problem?
What is a problem if any?

May get you in, or using the server address and going directly to the server may also get you in. The hiccup seems to be at accounts.ea.com and as all routes use this the 'tricks' may not work reliably.

tried your link gamerdruid, took about 2 minutes to load the page to navigate to the worlds im playing in but on choosing a world it fails.

and after some minutes… game works

I live in South Africa. I logged in on Friday 10th July, as normal, around 10am into my account. Everything worked fine. Later that day when I try to log in, I get a "server offline" red square box and my ratings cannot be displayed. I use Chrome and windows 10 and have the latest patches for all. I still use Microsoft IE as back up. Since yesterday, the only way I can log into my account is off my mobile device. No issues there but not off my desktop. Today when I try to log into the game via desktop it just sits and "waits" for EA and not much else happens under Chrome. Under IE, tried at 12:30pm on the 11th, I just get a red square box in the middle of an all black screen but when I hit F5 for refresh I can see for a second, it says : Page not found. So I have to assume there are some issues on the network? load balancer or other. If that is the case, I will wait.
Hopefully the issue isn't with me.

Yes, this time it seems to be an EA problem and not a game problem.

The issue isn't region related, as far as I can tell, it is global for EA. I'm sure they'll be working to correct the issue but game worlds are working OK if you can get past the login sequence.

There is (or was) a general problem - not browser related.
