Did anyone see the Bloomberg West interview with COO Peter Moore (about 45 minutes into the program)?
I was busy collecting coins from neighbors, so I might have missed important points, but the two things that caught my attention were:
1. They are expecting a huge increase in users on Christmas Day when all the new iPads get loaded with new games. And with the popularity of TSTO, they will be watching to make certain the servers can handle all the extra traffic. (Takeaway -- don't plan on getting any play time during Christmas Day), and
2. He mentioned that on some days they earn more than $ 1 million from the App Store (I believe just from TSTO). If this is true, they surely are making a lot of dough from these donuts
1 million a day.
ONE MILLION A DAY.
Surely that is enough to hire competent net admistrators that can keep a server up and running? And to upgrade said servers because according to what you posted, they knew there would be a huge increase so there is no excuse.
Booo!
Oh and I planned on not being able to access this game once all the kiddies go on Christmas break next week. It's gonna be a nightmare.- Exactly, lissarv68. Hopefully they're taking a bit of that one million a day and putting it back into their product. Otherwise that one million a day won't last... people won't be able to get online to buy donuts if it's not playable.
- Word of mouth.
In one day their rating in the App Store has dropped from 4 stars to 3.
However, they've got their monkeys trying to fix that. Seriously, nothing but glowing reviews and 5 star ratings. One right after the other, even some taking to task (crudely) those who dared to make negative comments about the game. Reeks of insiders to me because who is going to write glowing reviews when the majority of the players couldn't access the game?
You guys should go read the comments, very entertaining.
I will gladly change my 2-star review and give them a better review if they can have more days like today. Yes, there was an outage but it lasted about 30 minutes and it's been smooth sailing since. I can overlook/forgive a hiccup like that. It happens but anything longer? No so understanding. sonny1618 wrote:
Sounds interesting. Link?
The video link isn't working on their website. I am guessing that they still need to broadcast it once more before they post the actual video.
But here is the link anyway: http://www.bloomberg.com/video/ea-s-moore-says-mobile-gaming-future-of-industry-c8ee_o9hTiiVoVO7dytLkA.html
Edit - okay, does someone know how to get the link to post? When I preview it the link is active, but when posted the link goes away...- I know that it is now listed as #4 of the top grossing apps in the app store. It has swapped places with Smurfs Village, which is now #41.
- Oooh...thank you for the link.
Now I have a face to direct all my ire towards.
Anybody else scared that this is the so-called future of mobile gaming? A buggy, unreliable, game. Yay!
Confirmed, he said that TSTO makes a million dollars a day (he didn't say consistently, it was rather vague). He also did say that they expect a large influx of new players on Christmas Day. Joy. sonny1618 wrote:
Yeah, the week from Christmas Day onwards is not going to be pretty. The influx of new users plus engineers being on holiday is going to add up to trouble, mark my words.
Ugh, did not think about that. Joy.- Yeah, one would think that at $1 million/day they could afford some techs and quality servers.
I said it last weekend, and I'll say it again: I - and others - cannot buy doughnuts if your game will not work. You might want to get that fixed before the massive influx of new players you're expecting.
Oh and I am not looking forward to a thousand new add me threads on Boxing Day. - hopefully they'll just shut down the Origin/Friends part of the game....it's useless
- I don't know if I'd go that far -- I get a fair number of ideas from visiting "friends." Granted, some of said ideas are of the "wow, that is fug-ly! Won't be doing that!" variety.
But if there was a way to temporarily disable the friends part and have the game actually work, I'd be all over that like a hobo on free food.
