I'm about at the same place as you.

Goggle "Monsarno_Research" and click on the simpsonstappedout.wikia site. There you will find a chart that shows how the earned amounts increase with level updates through act 2. They go up quite a bit. I plan on upgrading for awhile and will start keeping track of what I'm earning per day to get a handle on this.

The farmer's market is suppose to still be there for crafting in act 2; according to many people.
