I think it's supposed to be a connection/joke about obesity and sports drinks, which have a somewhat-high sugar content - they're basically water, sugar, and salts, ostensibly designed to replace the loss of those things during physical activity, but argued to be bad for you, particularly in the absence of the physical activity part. Still, it's a dumb gag and it sounds bad, but we can at least spell it right.
