Having not yet bought all the land that is available, I am neither motivated, nor really entitlted to a strong opinion on this one. However, I am not sure it is necessarily as simple as people seem to think. Given how the game appears to work ... with your SF being downloaded from the server to your device in full every time you play, and with your friends SF's being downloaded from the server to your device in full when you visit them, EA need to balance giving players enough land to play the game the way they want against the possibility of increasing the instability of the game with additional data on top of the additional data added every time a new character/building/decoration is added.
Given the sheer variety of devices being used (it still runs on everything from the iPad2 to the iPad Air on the Apple side, and a whole slew of different Android devices running different versions of the OS, with different network tweals applied) it is perhaps not surprising that they err on the side of caution.
I am pretty certain that EA are not restricting the amount of land available just to honk off the members of this board.
