It's not that it's been extended or not...it's the sneaky and underhanded way EA went about it. Everyone knew WD was ending yesterday, sometime. This is the first update that allowed you to buy the prizes with (an obscene amount of) donuts, and anyone who really wanted something paid for it at the last moment, with real money.

Then to announce a week extension, a full day after it was supposed to end? That's just disgusting on their part, and feels extremely deliberate. This entire event has felt like "ways EA can get you to buy/spend donuts", and this last act has topped them all.
