Its happening to me too. I can't recall when it first began.

tap on the character's portrait on the top left to initiate the dialogue, instead of tapping on the character.
normally the character who is going to speak will have his/her portrait brought to the first, along with an exclamation mark....
almost all of my duplicate dialogue boxes happen when I tapped on the character instead.
