I might not have quite understood you, but the other castles are prizes which you win with the coins :) So if you spending the coins you wont have any to get the prizes, i was spending them upgrading Homer, Bart & Lisa but have stopped now till i get all the prizes and then will work on the rest of it.

If you are following the questline with all the tasks etc you should be fine

Neo you dont loose the coins by upgrading characters, the other castles will come keep following the storyline. I sped up a few 24 hour tasks.

Its sort of like when ai item you try to buy says "Level 42 required" or something like that. Or during stonecutter's when you had to REACH 2,000 emblems to get the next prize. :)
