I've always noticed that the cannon clears itself of handshakes. You're running out of elves, but are you seein a higher rate of 6 per hour? I'm also close to the top of both of my towns leaderboards, but I'very not been able to use my cannon as often as its ready. I've shot nearly 700 elves so far, what about you? Just curious to know how other leaderboards are doing.

The automatic clearing only recently started for me. I have a rate of 4 per hour, level 9 cannon, 9924 elf bells and I've shot 818 elves.

EDIT: Also, 97% of the time I am only tapping cannons and caves when visiting throughout the day.
