Excavation site on dirt?

I'm wanting to build a badlands-type part of my park connected to the western land with the excavation site, however the excavation site has grass borders whenever you put it on dirt... will you amazing EA Gods please fix this? It'd be cool to set up a Jurassic Park-like section in my SF...
