Yes I'll be interested to see if there is any item with a multiplier as a reward. If not I not see spending the time on it.

Looks like its 2 shovels per hour, not 1... don't know if there's a limit as to how many you can have..

I got a rock pile with my first. Do you get a prize every time you dig or when you hit a gem?

I've used two shovels. Looks like you get a prize when you hit a gem only @meinaz

Just in case it helps, I tried coming out of it halfway through a dig just to see what happens, got some IGC and XP and a message about not finding the loot or something... got two wooden barrels for the two gems I unearthed...

There is a timer. Gives two an hour I believe.

You can also still buy them for donuts.
