I just paid attention during my friend visits, and I would actually posit that you don't see the blueprint tally with neighbours that haven't updated to the Monorail update. You noticing crashing directly after must have been a coincidence on your end. See for yourself! :)

Sometimes I don't see the tally for whatever reason, but I haven't been crashing on friend visits at all. Since this update, my game has frozen a few times in my own town though.
