Fracking servers are at it again.
Same here, Peter... Just be patient, there's nothing we can do about it! Origin logo is also missing, so it's an Origin issue again.

I've been busy working on a project so have been scarce on the forum and only playing the game about once a day. I start my morning by checking here to make sure there are no problems before logging into my game and surprise, surprise, massive problems.
A couple of comments before I go back to my project (school's yearbook if anybody is curious what has taken over my life):
1 - That server issue image? Is a generic one. When the programming is done (coded), you can elect to have an image pop up. The image does not mean they are working on it.
2 - Relax. Everybody knows this is a crappy and unreliable game. It truly is "play at your own risk" and I know it feels better to complain but EA is making so much money that they really don't care.
3 - Do not do anything drastic or risk getting your town restarted. All you can do is wait it out. I suggest trying to sign into your Origin account either on the client or on the web. If you can access your friends list there? Then it is back. That will prevent any accidental restarts of your town.
4 - Be careful signing in and out of your town. If you have been logged out? Then just wait it out.
Finally.....I feel so much better about this game since I've backed off and only play once a day. Less stress, less frustration, and a reminder that it IS just a game and really not worth the hassle.
