I have been haunting buildings that aren't in the landing zone to avoid accidentally tapping one that's already haunted and also so the person can find other haunted buildings in their town. I know that I appreciate finding hauntings way up in the back corner as opposed to all in my landing zone.
In small towns that have house farms I just take extra caution when tapping.
