- I actually thought about that when the episode was first announced. I think it could be a reason for the crossover but most likely the main reason is to see the lovable characters one more time.

That was a great show!panopticnic wrote:
Fox isn't exactly smart they've cancled plenty of shows that came back in some compacity. Futurama, Buffy, and firefly come to mind.
Don't forget Arrested Development! :P- What, no one is mentioning Dollhouse?
I love Joss Whedon. I think he should be considered alongside Tarantino as a unique auteur of his generation. However, that's the reason his shows have always failed to gain an audience: he's not like other writers. Buffy did miserably in the ratings and was renewed only because people in the know knew how good it was. Firefly performed as poorly in the ratings for a more-established network that already had its prestige show (yep, the Simpsons). I'm well aware of the scheduling issues--I'm a browncoat--but it wouldn't have made any difference with Firefly. It was just too different.
Not sure what any of this has to do with Futurama Right's Issues, but I just wanna say I love Joss Whedon. If nothing else, his Much Ado About Nothing kicks Branaugh's in the something or other.
Loved dollhouse. They made joss show it out of his original order just like firefly. For some reason I could never get into firefly but I've never liked westerns. Sci fi or not. I messed the quotes up. Hope this makes sense. neuroheart wrote:

Firefly had a constant timeslot...
You're joking.
September 20 (Train Job; the second episode produced)
September 27 (Bushwhacked; the third episode produced)
October 4 (Our Mrs. Reynolds; the sixth episode produced)
October 11 Baseball game
October 18 (Jaynestown; the seventh episode produced) (ratings have dropped by nearly a million viewers)
October 25 (Out of Gas; the eighth episode produced)
November 1 (Shindig; the fourth episode produced)
November 8 (Safe; the fifth episode produced)
November 15 (Ariel; the ninth episode produced)
November 22 an Adam Sandler movie is run
November 29 The made-for-tv movie "Brady Bunch in the White House"is run.
December 6 (War Stories; the tenth episode produced) (ratings have dropped by nearly a million viewers. Have we spotted the pattern yet of what happens when it's not on every week?)
December 13 (Objects in Space; the thirteenth episode produced) (show has already been cancelled)
December 20 (Serenity; the original pilot)
So, not only was it not aired consistently, it was not aired in order.
But I'm sure the network had nothing to do with that, either.
With all due respect Neuroheart, I believe you are mistaking two different things for one another. What was aired and when the show was aired is two different things.
The time slot, that slice of time when the show airs, never changed during the show's brief run. It aired at exactly the same time during its brief run. I know this for a fact because I watched several of them myself when they aired as I was a fan of the other show that aired after it, John Doe.
But getting on point and ending this I go back again to the video game issue. Futuruama had a video game released in 2003 that was a flop, but it was still released. The company that published it went out of business and there hasn't been any video games released since. This company could still hold the rights to a Futurama game, and this company may not want to give up the rights even if it doesn't exist except on paper. If/when the rights expire, then we could see the characters in the game...
Another theory: maybe the co-creator doesn't want them in the game? Or they are having a problem integrating them into the game without using the work of a writer or having an issue with a writer? Or maybe it's all a red herring and the characters were never going to be involved in the game except as a way to make people talk about the show.lyle_catcliffe wrote:

The creators/ writers of Tapped Out deserve no rights to Futurama. Bender only ever follows "me" with "me, Bender". These writers know NOTHING about Futurama and don't deserve such a script.
Groening has complete creative control over the game and all Simpsons and Futurama content...you want to tell him he knows NOTHING about Futurama?- dcacooperNew Spectator

To be fair ... Firefly was cancelled because of poor ratings and Serenity did poor business at the box office. Personally I like both, although the level of love for Firefly has always baffled me, so I don't really see that proves Fox are not smart ... For me they are smarter than Paramount who paid for a theatrical movie based on the devotion of a small number of brown coats.
That aside, while I would love more Futurama (notwithstanding that we are only just getting season 10 in the UK) the last few seasons have not been anything like as consistently funny, clever and surprising as the early years. I would prefer it to remain the gem that it is than become a shadow of itself as The Simpsons has (inevitably) become. - its only good that we didnt get futurama characters in a tie in. Now we can have a big futurama event or expansion :P

Buffy wasn't on Fox, which is probably why it ran for seven years and Firefly (which might be my favorite show in history) only got 13 episodes.
Buffy almost only ran for 5 years. Started on the WB, then Moved to UPN for the last 2 seasons. Thank Goodness!
Regarding Buffy, I think by the end of the series, they had begun to run out of ideas... It was probably time for it to end. It had a good run, though!
Definitely would have loved to see more of Firefly. I was really disappointed they cancelled it. !

Oh yes! Doll House was interesting! Didn't last too long, though.
Looking forward to tonight's episode, legal issues aside. At least we have the episode to look forward to!- That's a pretty good theory and it could easily be true! :-o

Yes. That's what I'm saying. Watch an episode of Futurama with Bender and you'll see how I am right and they are wrong. Also, did I say anything about Groening? I don't believe he has much of an input on his franchise any more- and if he did, I'd be extremely disappointed in him as he must be himself when he see's the bloated corpse of his once glorious creation. He couldn't even get an episode pulled in 1995 (A Star Is Burns)- just his name removed from the credit, so I seriously doubt he had any control over this disgraceful lapse in writing.
You chose the one episode that is not like any other episode in the entire run of the series. That particular episode is the only one that he didn't like for one particular reason: it was a blatant attempt by the network to get more people to watch "The Critic". It wasn't a "real" Simpsons episode in his opinion, thus it wasn't his style, his characters, his overview. Even though it was Al Jean's character guest starring, and Al Jean is one of the true fathers of The Simpsons, since Jay Sherman and The Critic were the focal point of the show it wasn't a true Simpsons show thus he wanted his credit removed.
