Once I'm done with land expansions I will remove all the houses of course, but this will take a few more months :)
Personally, I think that house farms are ugly and look faintly ridiculous, but, hey, that's just me. If people want to build 'em, that's 100% fine with me. It's their town to play with as they please.
I will, however, repeat a point I've made once before. A lot of the people who run these farms insist, as does dieter, that they are merely temporary and will be dismantled at some future point. I have yet to see anyone actually do so. These farms are almost like security blankets. Once erected, the gamer finds it hard to do away with.- When people have these farms they get XP too fast.. People who's on level 21 and just got a quest to build the church..

I had a little farm of houses to get the game going and build up cash to buy all my trees and things while still having the cash to get all the buildings when they came up. I have since dismantled it, selling off 20 or so houses. So, here's one person who ditched her "security blanket".
I did, however, choose to keep a small row of houses near the prison as a matter of design. I think of them as halfway houses or "projects" and I like them there. I have sidewalks and they are somewhat spaced out. I wouldn't call it a farm, just an unsavory part of my Springfield. If we ever get the option to build train tracks, I will move the halfway houses to the wrong side.
They also give me something to tap on since I check in more frequently than I should...dietermitplatten wrote:

But there is also a way of having many houses without making it look like a "farm". I've seen a couple of cities that have multiple houses with much decorations, streets, etc. <snip>
I think I know what you're talking about here, dieter, but now the discussion boils to a question of definitions. I would agree with you that multiple houses do not not necessarily connote a farm. What I call a farm is a large group of houses shoved up against one another with nothing (or extremely little) in the way of decorations or streets.- theres ways to make it discrete while still managing to have beautiful springfields :P

So funny, I have a similar row of houses with the same sentiment. The brown houses look juuust ghetto enough. I grew up in Philly, so excuse me if I convert my suburban houses into grid street style row homes! And when I get krabapple, I know Exactly where she's going
As for ruining the game, I think a small accumulation of houses makes the game more playable. I have 5 brown houses, two blue houses, and two purple houses. They're organized in a way where they def aren't house farming, but any time I open the game I know I have a couple houses waiting to be clicked on. Excessive house farming is annoying though... I've had to unfriend people because I couldnt visit their Springfield; due to the house farming, the game crashed immediately before I could click on even one house. So in conclusion, I think multiple houses has a rightful place in moderation. "house farming lite". Like someone else said when it starts disrupting your design and your buildings are crammed together with no thought, that's when its a problem.- I have started to put in multiple houses because as I looked at the community it seemed silly that there is this town and city hall etc and only like 10 houses I'm the whole city. This said I am not putting any tww of the same type net to one another, trying to make them neighborhoods. Then I have my brown house farm I guess at the top, but to me those are my row houses, my bad area.
I do agree though I don't care for th e look of them mashed together, but how others chose to play I their choice. I cannot say that it is any less enjoyable for them to play that way. - A monorail would be truly awesome.
...But it's more of a Shelbyville idea.
