Kwik-E-Mart Farming Demo Video

It would seem that some people (as in: some of my new neighbors) don't understand KEM farming. I visit their towns and they've got a field of Kwik-E-Marts just sitting there. So I made a little video to demonstrate how to do KEM farming and put it up here on Youtube.

I would like to optimize your KEM farm experience.
Here I have built my farm with unsellable items such as roads and Duff fences. I made lanes for 9x2 KEMs and an extra wide barrier at the top. This enables me to place 18 KEMs at a time without repositioning. The arrow shows how the KEMs are placed. Also 9 KEMs is the most you can select in that direction when selling.

But mine IS optimized. I optimized it years ago when I had no land area to speak of because I was almost bankrupting myself every day buying KEMs. You're probably not aware of this as a much 'younger' player that I am, but every time they released more land they decreased the price of the existing land. A Lot. The area I use for my KEMs is approximately where the original plot of land is when you start a new game and land plots just a few squares away cost what the ones on the edge of the current plat cost now.
There were also other considerations back then that no longer apply:

    • If there was an unsalable item in your selection area you couldn't sell. And that included roads!
    • If you caught a character in your selection they'd get sold along with your KEMs. You'll notice they grey out now...

Come to think of it... There was no Area Select Tool back then. You had to sell each KEM individually. In fact I remember that back in the early, early days of playing that I had to BUY each KEM individually, opening the Store menu each time.

The South and East borders of my farm (the Mountains are to the West, as stated in the game) are bounded by unsaleable items. Manhole Stations. It was quite a while before the game included free stuff that didn't interfere with my line of sight when placing KEMs. Then there's the other stuff like the motorbikes and bicycles (much of which you can't see because it's hidden behind buildings) that keep the KEMs from dropping outside my farm area. I deliberately left the West and North sides unblocked because I so often get a little off when starting a column or row. It's less stressful to go back after and make minor corrections than to stop and reposition when a KEM doesn't go exactly where it was supposed to. And you see how fast I go as I'm dropping them.

But... But... Those aren't divisible by FIVE! How COULD you! You... You... AHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Sometimes I couldn't afford to put all 35 KEMs. And this was back before the price went up with each additional one purchased!

I've tried stuff like that. It just never worked out for me. KEMs would drop out of place so then I'd have to stop and reposition... Besides, I've been farming KEMs like this so long I can practically do it in my sleep. And I think I have done it in my sleep sometimes. :o

  • Thanks wadebear and frosted1414...will test out some of your tips and recommendations!

wadebear: so envious of all your donuts! If I were you, I would instantly use those 4400+ donuts and buy 220+ Bourbon Street Bands which increase your bonus % by 880 points!
  • Great job @wadebear! Like you I wish I'd started farming from the outset, but better late than never

Oh, I've been farming from very early on. I just didn't listen and spend the donuts I scrabbled to gain on Burns Mystery Boxes but instead always spent them on everything else.

I erred on both counts. Increasing my % was a long, slow process, and now I think I’ve got the same bonus % in storage as I have out.

I'm saving up for stuff: THOH 2020, Golden Goose Realty, God...
I'm also enjoying finally being able to buy everything offered in the events.
Also I need another... Wait a minute. (Re-enters numbers in calculator...) Whoa! I must have calculated wrong the other day. I only need 172 more points to reach the next Bonus plateau (1566.67%) and only need SIX KEMs to get Bonuts instead of Seven! And I can almost reach the next plateau of 1900% after that! Dude! That's been my goal for years!
Um.... Um... Ummmmmm..... (dancing from foot to foot) But what about the rest of the stuff from this event? And THOH... AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
@virtuman1980 Thanks for making me go back and look at the numbers again. But now I gotta think... Do I really want that many Bourbon Street Marching Bands in my town? What if I buy the event stuff first? How many donuts does that leave me? XP collider runs out in a couple of days so I'll need to recharge...
Then again I could always just buy a bunch of Rat Trap Trucks. It's not like I can't afford them.
Time to buy Bourbon Street Bands!
Now where to put them... Where to put them...
  • Well apparently I can't do math (or use a calculator) right today either. I pushed my Bonus up to 1900%+ in all 3 games and I still have1863 donuts left over.
    Meanwhile...
    Who Hoo!!!!!
