So to keep generating tokens, we must save one square as unpurchased, not including the excluded corner on the far right. I got that part.
But can the saved, unpurchased square, be in the water?
Yes it can. I've saved two squares of unpurchased ocean and I'm still getting land tokens. So as long as you have one land or sea tile still to purchase, you'll carry on getting the land tokens.
