Most INAPPROPRIATE time a TSTO notification has gone off...

I think the story of that notification going off during a funeral is still top of the list.

The funeral and wedding stories are hard to beat. I wonder if anyone's had it go off in court.

Worst for me was when it went off while I was giving a lecture to a class. They're not supposed to know I play games.

Don't want to be the "cool" professor?

ha, cool is good, but awkward isn't. It's all context dependent. I've actually had it go off at least one other time while giving a talk--this was back when I was really into the game and would set short tasks. When they were engaged, it was a funny interruption that I didn't mind. The last time, things were awkward to begin with, so Homer shouting out and me pretending not to hear him just made things worse. That's when I turned off notifications for good.

Really, an interruption like that would be much more embarrassing if you're the student. Reminds me of the time in college when I brought my laptop to freshman biology, which was in a lecture hall, and decided to turn it on in order to type notes. Totally forgot about that loud, protracted Windows startup sound.
  • "Better him than me went off" when I had Vice President of Development sitting in my office. He thinks I'm a bit of a twit, so this just confirmed it for him.

Guess mine may make the top 5...
Was working here in Hollyweird filming a middle-east battle scene on a TV show w/a few folks arguing in an appropriately dry humor, satirical bit when Homer blurts out 'better them than me!' ...fellas near me turned & lightly cracked up wondering what the he'll that was as I cringed, biting my lip & slyly slipped the phone out to my side to try & switch the darn thing to vibrate; fortunately we were 50 feet away so it didn't fully disrupt the shoot
  • I've had them go off numerous times during meeting which causes funny looks, but I think the best (worst) time was in the middle of a redundancy meeting. Fortunately it was someone who we kept on.
