Yeah thats what i think as well, i'm 95% sure mine just disappeared inside the sphere and i thought it was rubbish so i didn't do it again, haven't seen it in a friends town either!

So do they just walk around the town now in coloured wigs?

Nelson triggers it. I saw it on the board a few months back and brought them out of KL to do the quest. It's a 12 or 16 hour quest to climb the Sunsphere (temporary task), then I think the task unlocks for their 16 hours around the town with wigs.

There are actually two different tasks.

There is the single use (one-off) one, which is part of the single task questline called "Here Comes The Sunsphere", triggered on placement of the Sun Sphere. The task is called "Climb the Sunsphere", and that's the one where they disappear into the sphere for 16hrs.

Then there is the permanent task (which you don't get any sort of prompt for- it's up to you to find it in Bart, Milhouse, Nelson and Martin's task lists) which is called "Celebrate the WO__D F_IR" which is where the wigs come in. This one is 16 hours too.

Come to think of it, this building is missing in our official guide in the guide section for "Aspirationals". Also the 5M item is also missing from the list as well.
