According to the stickied walk through parts "the end of the beginning" 1-22 do not reward event currency, but you get a worthwhile mini game at the end of it.

I am at 6693. According to the calendar, you should have 3426 on Jan 4th and 5139 by Jan. 5th, so everybody that has posted is ahead of schedule. You need 1,713 a day.

I am at around 5200 - that's with Lucille.

I'm premium at 7069.

I just made it past 7100 and I did buy Lucille. So far this seems like an easy act.
