I noticed that I've been getting handshakes on buildings from a few neighbors even though they are fully engaged in the event. Anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen?

This was a good tip. I completely missed Barbarian because I have always kept him on Barbarian Homer skin and did not notice he had an event currency earning task. I honestly was very pleasantly surprised he was included!

They are still working on the phase 1 quests so they aren't squishing veggies yet. They should catch up soon.

One neighbor is pretty high up on the leaderboard, so he must be squishing veggies.

Thank you Direwolf - this clears up a lot of stuff! :D

EDIT: if you are my neighbour, I have dropped seeds in your town (I'm keeping track of it - and everyone has had at least one dropped...). That being said, you may not have gotten them so I apologize for that. I am going to try to adjust when I drop them - I have a general idea of where some of you are, but not all of you so I will do my best. I will likely do neighbour visits and seed drops separately, unless I think you are awake and playing and I have seeds available.

Not happy EA has put a timer on these (especially because the drop rate for them is pretty sparse) - in the past it had caused a lot of resentment because some people thought their neighbours were not helping them.

I hope that everyone on the forum will keep the expiry of 4 hours in mind before jumping to that conclusion.

MODS - any possibility of stickying this topic? It is really helpful, and I would hate for it to get buried. :D

Can we have a mathematical breakdown of how to get the most amount of spades each day please? I know we need 1200 odd spades per day, and I know the ways you get spades, but I think the maths will make it simpler for everybody, especially as the figures needed are so high this event.

Also, how exactly do you get the mutant seeds. It's always important to me to help my neighbours, but that's not going to happen with just two of them! :(

Edit: Also on the Mutant Seeds, when tapping them in your town, does a message come up telling you you've got them all? Like the Mutant Corn?

Plus: Have any of you noticed Sideshow Bob is whiter than usual? I think it's the same colour the Simpsons went when Lisa got them to eat all healthy fruit and veg, and it did bad things to their systems!! Coincident??? :O

Cane Field - this is one of those fairly low priced craft able items. Is this ONE plot of Cane or does this give you the ability to place it like roads and water?

I can't imagine it'll be like roads. I was thinking this will be one plot likreally pumpkin patches from Halloween.
