It's more likely that its your iDevice that's crashing and not the EA system. In all likelihood, the size if your Springfield is exceeding available RAM on you iDevice causing it to crash.
I've closed every program on my iPad but TSTO, and it still crashes.
This is an EA issue that needs to be fixed, and/or at least addressed.
