No, it's not.
It's derogatory, but certainly not on the same level as 'N'.HeeHonkey wrote:

If you call someone a "cracker," you're saying something rude about his/her background and upbringing.* But you're just being rude, the same way as if you called someone an @$$hoIe.
If you call someone a n-----, you're using a term that was used to degrade, dehumanize, and enslave a people, and by extension, participating in that mentality.
(*I say this as a white male who was born in and has lived all but 2 years of his life in the south.)fastdan1 wrote:

Agreed. I don't recall ever seeing photos of community picnics, with families gathered around to enjoy the spectacle of "poor rural white people" being lynched. Whatever pains the poor whites went through, festive community lynchings were not included.- I was told long ago that the term and/or title Cracker derived from 'whip cracker' ie slave owner.
 - well it could be worse; I was on a forum where you couldn't type computer. It seems pute was an obscene Korean word; I never understood how it got from the Korean script to English script

Fascinating amount of info there. With all those possibilities as to the word's origins, it's no wonder it upsets so many.
Thanks.
