Your statement is the typical statement of those that not care. But I'll try to explain why double-haunting/unhaunting has alot of influence.
First of all, you have to realise, that when playing a game a little more than casual, you actually want to do your best. And in doing so, most games have implemented a trophy/achievement system, so too in this game, though it's known as unlockable prizes. Hard gamers tend to stretch quite high towards these kinds of goals.
Now in view of this, you and the people saying the same, has to understand that the prizes do NOT stop after you have collected all the personal prizes. We are also aiming towards getting as many free donuts as possible. This means, that when someone says something like: "why whine about it, you'll have plenty of time to reach all your prizes...", no you won't. The prizes are infinite. We have very little time to try and reach as many donuts as possible.
MATHEMATICS:
As for the other part, double haunting may happen quite alot depending on your neighbours. But just for the fun of it, lets just do a small mathematical example. Let us say you have 100 neighbours, and 10 neighbours double-haunt you every day (this may happen regardless of how active you are, unless you are on 24/7. As it's possible to check in particular towns, just waiting to double haunt when possible, and unless it's possible they just wait, or come back).
Anyway, if you have ten neighbours that always double-haunts/unhaunts, you'll lose 2 GOO for every house, and with three taps, that adds up to 6 GOO for every visit. In addition, you'll lose the 6 GOO you would have gotten, if they instead made normal hauntings. This means you effectively lose 12 GOO for each of those visits. 12 GOO times 10 neighbours, equals 120 GOO each day.
Now if you consider the length of this event, beginning the 1th of October, and ending the 7th of November that will be 38 days. But since you had to use one day to begin the event (if not speeding it), I'll put the whole length to 37 days. 120 GOO each day, times 37 days, will be 4440 GOO.
But it doesn't stop there, you also have to take into consideration that if you instead had ten neighbours benefitting you all these 37 days, they would have given you 6 GOO times 10 friends = 60 GOO/per day; 60 x 37 days = 2220 GOO during the whole event.
This means that just ten neighbours unhaunting you every day, give you an estimate of 6660 GOO in total that you could have gotten. This is 3 bonus boxes, which should equal 9 donuts (given you have the in-game cash to secure that outcome).
Now 9 donuts isn't really that much, but you have to understand that when you are gaming hard, and really trying your best to make as much as possible (as opposed to just buy everything all the time), this means something. If you have a goal and work for it, your reward usually taste good when you reach it, even if it's just something small like this.
In this example I didn't say that ten good neighbours, would probably also give you some gremlins now and then too, and if you were this active, those gremlins would benefit you quite alot during 37 days too. So possibly this could come down to perhaps 12 donuts.
Anyway, this example can give a little perspective as to how much you could lose with ten neighbours. With 20 neighbour actively double-haunting/unhaunting, you could lose out atleast the double, meaning 18 donuts. The reason I say atleast here, is that with 20 beneficial neighbours, you'd most likely have gotten quite a lot of gremlins, ascertain that would count as atleast one more donut box.
Now, to make this example a bit more complex, some neighbours may double-haunt AND leave you some gremlins, but for the purpose of this example, I have been considering double-haunters as non-gremlin givers as well.
To conclude this, I'm pretty sure most people playing this game would somewhat annoyed if they just lost let's say 10 donuts all of a sudden. Espescially those that do not want to put money into it. So perhaps this makes it a little more clear why some people react to double-haunting/unhaunting?

Yes, I am clearly stating that in the post you referred to, and others... your point being?
Even though it's a game, some are more passionate than others, and some are playing "harder" than others. Where casual gamers don't really care too much, other, perhaps "more dedicated" players, will. That is the life of playing games. Some takes it more serious than others. There is no reason to ridicule one another, either way one is playing a game in particular. I guess both groups gets what they are after, but we play it differently. "Hard gamers" want to excel as much as possible, casual gamers are rather content to do everything mediocre, or reaching "low" goals. Atleast they are low in the eyes of "harder" gamers.
To do another parallel, you do know what else is considered "just a game" in the large picture? Every sport there is, and if you think about it, you actually see how much passion different people put in that, even others might be completely indifferent.
Or perhaps it's just my European blood making me this passionate? ;)
