I think it makes a huge difference if you already have some of the stuff, from last year's Christmas event. I only started playing in July of this year and I've done very well with the wheel so far with my 22 spins:

I only started getting cash today, and I think it's because there are so few premium items left on the wheel for me to claim. I really want that Yeti and Snowman Bart, but now that I know the odds are stacked in favor of getting cash I'll wait till it's close to the end and if I haven't got Snowman Bart yet I'll buy him. I don't think I can buy the Yeti, so fingers crossed on that one.
