Thoughts on enabling advertisements in exchange for Donuts?

I think you should be able to buy donuts with in game cash. Why not? I like donuts and I have lots of money that I don't need. Let's make this happen.

It is too easy to make money in game now, so the revenue would take a huge fall.

I hate in-game adverts. The game takes a while to load anyway, so having an ad at the beginning would slow that down - a real pain when I'm switching between my main and feeder town. Having a banner at the bottom would make the game much harder to play, especially if you're on a phone rather than a tablet.

If EA implemented something like that without a way for me to opt out - whether it be turning it off and forfeiting the donuts, or paying 79p or whatever - I'd be really annoyed. If a game starts out like that, you can choose to avoid it. If they introduce it now, when people are already committed and have spent money, that's pretty unfair.

there could be a free donut link where you have to watch an advert for a donut. I have a game that does that and you can rack up premium currency quite quickly. You are limited to watching the same advert only once per day.

There's a company called TapJoy who do something similar. You sign up for an account with them and complete promotional offers to earn in-game currency. Sometimes it's watching an advert, sometimes it's downloading another app (usually free), sometimes it's making a purchase from a retailer. It's quite cool if you were planning on buying something anyway and they happen to have an offer for that retailer.

Might be an interesting way for EA to cross-promote their other games.
