Btw - I love your new designs/areas. But please keep your picket fence homemade drive in. I love that thing!
Thanks so much neighboreeno! :Drobynou wrote:
Oh, I like your Quimby Compound. Thanks for posting a picture. I read on another post you put that you love to decorate so I have been curious how the little wig wearing pup decorates.
Thank you :Drobynou wrote:
...Krusty's Mansion did get a nice playground. Just like Micheal Jackson would have. :D
That's funny.
When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was a huge Michael Jackson fan. If only back then I would have known that I was his type... - Great topic, Barry!
I follow much the same process you do, but I very rarely research images first. An exception was this weekend: I was thinking about what I'll do with the black box and buffet buildings and did a Google image search for "landing strip." The results were not what I was expecting. I probably should have searched for "airport landing strip."
I know there are many people far more creative than I am, so I try to compensate by trying to fit the pieces together so there's no filler in my town (while also trying to pay attention to those unmentionables: realism, symmetry, etc.). The designs might be bad ideas, but I try not to fudge anything. Unfortunately, that often means that large areas of my town have to be redone when I add a building. I'm not exaggerating when I say that upwards of a quarter of my town might have to be redone if like what I have in mind with the Black Box. That or I'll toss it in a corner. - barryriddl474Seasoned Newcomer

Yikes. I googled 'grandfather clock' and forgot the "L"... horrible stuff.Pinpal00 wrote:

I know exactly what you mean, although I've never done that much, but maybe 6 plots at a time when needed to get the best placement for me.
Some of my areas I'm happy and done with, but so many others require constant tweaking, and for me, that's where the fun lies. :D barryriddl474 wrote:

Actually, your ever-changing town is partly to blame for my revisions! I'm trying to be more flexible. I've been taking an ax to parts of my town I haven't touched in a year in the hope that it'll force me to come up with unexpected building combinations and more efficient arrangements.
(Small point: some things I can't change. I'm sure other people have noticed that you can do things with decorations some of the time but not always. For instance, I can't combine now hedges and fences the same way I could before an update during the Halloween event, and designs using that combination simply can't be moved now. Very annoying.)- barryriddl474Seasoned Newcomer

You have started a great thread on this topic Barry. I am like most others it seems as I but the building and drop it onto an empty plot of land. After seeing it ion the town I can get a better perspective of where and how to place it. Sometimes that becomes a challenge when we are running out of land.
I must compliment you on your town as you always have interesting and thoughtful layouts. Seeing your town and others it gives me inspiration to put more time into mine. Thank you.
Thank you neighbor! :D
Your town is fantastic and always a pleasure to visit :)Pinpal00 wrote:

I've noticed this as well. Same with the cobblestone walls. I also noticed trees can be placed, but if that spot is covered in concrete, and the tree is highlighted to move again, the tree's highlight is red, as if to tell you not to place a tree on concrete (as it should be). Many subtle changes lately in addition to the recent store/inventory update. Most still seem in the beta phase.
I would enjoy it more if EA would add the often suggested changes like area storing, dirt, and better water transitioning (for example, river running into the sea/Springfield Falls with a nearby placed river). All in good time  - I put different kind of buildings in different sections. I have "construction area" free constantly so if a new building comes that will fit in that area, I put it there and that's it! :-)
- My thought process when I see I am getting another new building:
"Holy crap. Another new building."
:) - This topic took an unexpected turn. the google jokes are hilarious.
After I bought all the land I did a full redesign. When that happened I created sections for my town - residential, mansions, business district, factories, downtown, etc. When new buildings come, I then attempt to redesign within those areas. I honestly cant decide what to do with the decorations around quimby and krusty mansions that I havent already done... - barryriddl474Seasoned Newcomer

I can relate to this. With 5 mansions in the game, being unique with each one posts its own challenges. I feel I am following the same template with each one-- circular driveway, wall/iron railing/hedge boundary, heavy landscaping, and something that sets it apart from the others.
I put Krusty on the beach, because it looks like a beach mansion to me. With the mayor's compound, I tried to think of him and his lifestyle, and the fact it's a compound. Fat Tony is within walking distance to the Legitimate Businessman's Club, Retirement home, hospital and Luigi's. Burns is easy. And the gold mansion is simple, but boring to a degree, to me.
My mansions are spaced across the town, simply because the rich people are in different classes of great wealth, although I've seen many nice areas where the mansions are near each other. In my opinion, Krusty would be the most financially unstable of the 5, and Burns would be at the other end of the spectrum.
If we had more posh decorations, we could certainly do more. For example, gates specific to each mansion. Swimming pools, super swimming pools with rock walls like on MTV Cribs, and garages would be nice. More cars and proper circular driveways. Parked motorcycles and yachts. Private piers for beach mansions. I could go on and on. - i do the same thing pretty much i will look at images of it to get an idea of what i can do with it at same time i will research it some more by looking at what district in Springfield it is located. Also I try to keep the buildings together like Moe's and King Toots Android's Dungeon and Skips Diner
