What the? (Nightmares)

OK, so I've just gone back to those two towns where I tapped two zombies, and have squished one more zombie in each town. My zombie total is now 10. So it does seem that tapping one of the next nightmare (in this case, zombies after skeletons) when you're close to the upgrade total counts as double and is carried over when you upgrade, before then reverting back to counting as one after the upgrade.

Not sure when this kicks in - my theory is that it happens when you reach the "upgrade campfire for zero donuts" options (which doesn't actually work). But I can't test my theory until the next campfire upgrade...

Wade, the same thing happened to me as well, with a slight twist.

Last night before I went to bed, my campfire kids were making skeletons. Between my neighbor visits and tapping skeletons in my own town I had enough to upgrade the campfire to the next level. I didn't feel like staying up for the kids to finish at the campfire so I went to bed.

This morning, the first thing I did was tap all the skeletons that generated overnight. Then I checked the campfire upgrade tab and it showed that I already had 26 zombies (same as you)! I hadn't even tapped the campfire or changed it to collect zombies yet. I have no idea where they could have come from. I thought I read somewhere that tapping nightmares in other towns didn't count towards your campfire upgrade. But, how did the campfire upgrade change from skeletons to zombies without me changing the campfire to produce them???

Oh well, it did give me a head start on the zombies. :D

Edit: I guess the zombies could have come from neighbor visits. I'm not picky anymore about whatever nightmare it is. I tap them all. Then if I haven't fallen asleep by the time the nightmares have run out, I keep tapping for donuts.

I agree It happens.

I have been manipulating the story teller and its spawn too, and once saw a whole batch of bunnies convert to skeletons right before my eyes! And i wanted those bunnies!

So there's definitely some issues. But not much we can do, it's obvious they fix things on their own schedule, and if you contact them, they run you through the same series of supposed remedies that actually have nothing to do with your issue.
Now in your situation, I'm waiting on campfire reassignment until i get the needed nightmares from the neighbor towns. It delays the next batch only about 20 minutes but i know I'm getting my desired nightmares.

Which sounds creepy.

Either you read wrong or the person who wrote it didn't know what they were talking about. Whenever I come up short on an upgrade I go to my neighborhood and start hunting Nightmares. It comes in really handy if you're only a handful short. I'll go ahead and change the Campfire to the next Nightmare and have them 'perking' while I hunt down the last few in neighboring towns.

Now one thing I don't know is if it changes over automatically when you hit the upgrade number while you're in the neighborhood. Once I get the number I need I stop and go back to my own town.

I tried that. It was taking too long (as in around 3 hours...). Everyone's complaining about how long it takes to load neighbor towns. Well try it on satellite internet. M. O. L. A. S. S. E. S. Then there's the time it takes to hunt down Nightmares, tapping behind every building in case there's one hiding there...

So I'm just saving my neighbor visits to do catch ups on Nightmares. Then every 2 or 3 days I'll go through just dropping FTs until I start to run out. (Which still takes WAY too long, but not as long as hunting for Nightmares.)

Nightmares only count when tapped in neighbours town if it is within the 90 actions (I.e. still paying out crafting currency) after that they don't count.

Any chance the extras came from tapping the Gateway to Nowhere.

This happened to me as well, except it was from zombies to snakes, and I already had 26 snakes when zombies finished.

Only if there is a glitch and it's counting those toward the next campfire level before it starts. I made sure to check right after I got the level, and it was already 26. I had earlier in the day done the gate (at about 8AM) and the stump (about an hour before) before I completed the zombie level.

Can't figure out what happened but had something similar too.
