What time does Simpson day start

Or to put it another way, when they say the Christmas event finishes on the 2nd January, is that at 23:59 on the 2nd, or 00:01 on the 2nd.
Also, whatever the time is, how does it relate to UK time.
My wife and I have had events finished by at different times and sometimes days. Mine is normally the later one.
