Approximately 3,131 XP for visiting 100 neighbors + Other Springfield - which, depending on your multiplier, is the same as buying between one to three weather stations @ roughly $10,000 each. I still visit out of habit, to see how my neighbors progress, and because I do it while doing something else.

Righteousness: Keep criminals and graffiti off the streets. Affected by a combination of criminal population and their moral behavior, as well as cleaning up graffiti and how long it’s left in your town before you clean it.

Visiting neighbors raises the socialism rating, not the righteousness rating.

This is all available to you if you open your conform-o-meter and "tap each rating to see how to improve it." There's also the info on decorations that tells you what they do. Most will say they raise your Vanity rating, or the plants will raise your Tree-hugging rating. But the training wall raises your Righteousness rating and the Koffee Kart raises your Gluttony rating. Stop signs and "hail ants" signs raise Obedience. (Hopefully we'll get one that will raise Consumerism.)

It's worth it if they have SP tiles. Getting over 2k xp for taking 45 seconds to visit 3 times is worth it to me.

Visiting neighbors syncs your town, so if you get a glitchy drop in Righteousness, it might go back up after a re-sync. But it's not actually the act of visiting that raises it. (Stop signs are for Obedience, not Righteousness. And the best way to raise Righteousness "in a short amount of time" is to buy a few training walls. If you have enough, it won't drop in the first place. Mine used to drop off every time I leveled up, and now it does not.)

Oh I know, I am currently visiting neighbours regularly who I know are leaving SP tiles to tap, and the other buildings with the multicollect thing going on, the fact it doesnt benefit me doesnt really matter, its nice to get that XP bonus but it isnt the driving reason for visiting neighbours for me.
