All problems with AI should be solved very simply. The developers should introduce virtual simulation of AI races into the game. Better yet, they need to add AI on the track, like it was in Dirt 2. If the AI beat me by 30 seconds, I'd like to see how it did it. I want to see replays of AI races. The developers should finally take a step forward. If you want to attract more audience to your fairly niche game, then you must introduce new technologies. Just not in the graphic component!!! First ask the rally players if they need the new Unreal Engine? Or new features in the game, maybe?
I'm not sure exactly how it's done, but from what I have seen, AI times seem to be calculated... unfortunately not always correctly. I have seen some really strange stuff hapenning, especially in Career. AI times does not seem to correspond properly to tyre wear and weather / road condition. Monte Carlo is a good example. In stage 2, I can easily get ahead by couple seconds on asphalt, be just a bit slower on ice section (I blame my skill), but I always lose a lot of time in the very last fast section. It's like AI ignores ice and snow in the last section.
Stage 3 is a similar story, with a change on asphalt in the last section (which is same as Stage 2 beginning), where I can't compete with AI, probably due to tyre wear.
I don't really think I'm constantly drifting and I also tried different setups - no significant change. DR2 had a similar issue, but it wasn't as bad from what I remember.
