Few newbie questions

hi 

We just got ea wrc, and I find it very difficult to navigate and not simple.to use I played Wrc Generations for ages and it was simple

My questions are 

How can we select a rally then stage and just play?  I want to compare my times against real people not AI.

I go to quick play and have to sit in a lobby to wait for others to join.. how is that quick play ? Or am I missing something ? 

Next why no free play mode ? My young son loves to just muck about and as it is now he has to do this on stage he's only 7 it's such a shame. 

Seems a difficult game to get going with.
