Nope, I don't agree. If the car in real life was left or right hand drive, then for the sake of realism, that's what it must be in-game. Obviously some players will be used to one side or the other in reality but also some players may not even drive a real car at all, whether it due to age or other factors. And if your rig is setup with a shifter on the right, for example, why would you want to move it across to the other side each time you use a different car?
You just have to adapt to whatever you're driving. It also depends which camera view you use, if you're not in cockpit view and use bonnet cam then it's irrelevant. If you do use cockpit and it's left hand drive then you can see a right turn more clearly, and vice versa.
Yes in other games you can move the internal camera across the cockpit, like in ACC, but not sure why you'd really do it.

Yes in real life, for different countries, the road cars are available in either configuration but they're not gonna produce both variants for multiple team members in team.
As for the historic cars, the devs will have used whichever model was most prevalent to render in game
